Tracey  is the Young Carers Support Officers who support carers up to the age of 18 by offering advice, information and support, they also organise events for young Carers and they also write in the newsletter.

THE CHILDREN'S SOCIETY

The Children's Society has been awarded funding to develop the Young Carers Initiative.  The Initiative Team provides information and support to professionals working with young carers, including good practice guidelines and on a higher level to promote policy.  Their website provides information directly to young carers.

Young carers are children and teenagers who help to look after an ill or disabled family member. It could be a physical disability, mental illness, Hiv/Aids related illness, drug or alcohol misuse in the family, that has an effect on their lives.

The Young Carers School Project (37KB)

Introduction:  

This project was introduced in 2004 with the specific aim of working with all secondary schools and colleges within the Medway Towns in order to assist them with the identification and support of young carers.

It began life as part of the "Medway Young Carers Project" but assumed its own identity in 2005.  Although separate the project continues to work closely with colleagues based at the carers centre of young carers.
