who are young carers?

Young Carer's are children and young people aged between 5 and 18 that care or help to care for a family member who may have  a long term illness, disability, mental health problem, HIV/AIDS or is affected by drug/alcohol misuse.

Young Carer's may provide emotional, practical or personal support to the cared for and take on responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult.

What activities are there for young carer's and when?

As we are a small charity we rely on other organisations to help us out with funding, so we can provide young carer's with lots of exciting activities. Sometimes we are lucky enough to receive donations from other individuals or groups.

Activities or respite breaks are held during the school holidays or weekends. We often go ice - skating, bowling, the cinema and have park days.

If we have more funds to spend we go on bigger activities such as: a theme park or zoo, the theatre, adventure centres which include rock climbing, canoeing/kayaking and high ropes. We have also taken lots of young carer's horse riding for the day and camping for the weekend!!

YOUNG CARER'S SCHOOLs PROJECT

The Schools Project was set up up to raise awareness and identify more Young Carer's and help support them through their education. We provide 1-1 support, assemblies, P.H.S.E lessons, monthly lunch clubs and training to all staff within the school. Some young carer's do not have to join our project to benefit from our support and can just access the schools project if they wish.

Currently we are active within the following schools:

Rainham School for Girls

The Thomas Aveling School

Woodlands Primary School

Rivermead

New Brompton College

Chatham South
